What kind of rooms do you have?
We have a mixture of semi-private and private rooms.  Some of them have private bathrooms, adjoining bathrooms and shared bathrooms.

How do you protect my child?
We recognize you have spent a life-time of guarding your child from being taken advantage of by others. We offer 24-hour protective oversight. Opposite sexes are not allowed in each other’s rooms. For those who lack judgement regarding money we offer to help them budget their monthly spending allowance. We have locks on each bedroom door that can be locked and yet keep a master key available due to the enevitable event of losing the key. Our back doors are alarmed so that we know when someone is coming or going. While being careful not to infringe on their rights as an individual we monitor visitors and recreational activities.

What does Jefferson County offer?
Services of Jefferson County offers a day program, Jeffco Subcontracting offers a sheltered-workshop, Adult Vocational Services offers employment within the community, Vocational Rehabilitation offers independent employment opportunities, Leisure Services offers monthly activities that are chaperoned and JC Transit offer transportation for a nominal fee.

Do you have a social worker? We do not employ a social worker, however, we have a good working relationship with St. Louis Regional Center who offer case management and COMTREA who also offer case management.

What about church?
We believe it is important to meet the spiritual need of our residents. We also recognize that each one has a church of choice.  For those who do not wish to go out to church but would like to attend church we offer a weekly service.  There are communion ladies who come weekly.  Also a local church offers a special class and van.

Who inspects you? We are licensed by Division of Aging and currently applying for Department of Mental Health licensing. Along with their four inspections during the year, we are also inspected by the Festus Fire Marshal and Department of Health annually.

Will you make my child bathe?
Good hygiene is important to everyone whether they go out in the community to a program or stay at home with others. It promotes good physical health and good psychological health. Yes, we bathe at My Place Residential Care.

Would they have to use their spending money on necessities?
We provide all personal products (generic). If they need a special brand or prefer a special brand then they would be responsible for it. This includes shampoo, toothpaste toothbrushes, denture tablets, sanitary napkins, and soap.

Can they bring items from home?
Yes. This is a home and it takes things from home to make it their home.  It can be discussed as to what is appropriate.

Will they have to do chores? We do not have assigned chores. However, we are not a hotel. Each resident is expected to keep their room neat and tidy.  Each resident is allowed to help as they are able and willing with simple housekeeping tasks (i.e. setting the table, picking up dishes, straightening books, etc.) We wish to instill a point of pride in their home that will extend to the community.
